Thank you so much for your recent donation to Missoula Food Bank & Community Center! This kindness helps us keep healthy food and critical services accessible to every member of our community.
This past year has been very busy at the food bank. We have been working hard to meet the rising need in Missoula County, as more community members are utilizing our services than ever before. As we have met new needs in new ways, our community’s support has been critical in every thing we have done in the past year. Here are some of MFB&CC’s key accomplishments of 2023.
- Due to an unprecedented number of individual shops in the first six months of the year, we revamped our model in our emergency food pantry Store Program. In July 2023, we began allowing households to shop once per calendar week. This change allows us to work to provide a more equitable experience for our customers, as more food is now available at all times throughout the day. So, no matter when a community member shops, whether it be 10 am or 6:30 pm, they are able to fill their carts with nutritious goodies!
- With a grant, we were able to expand our Satellite Pantry programs. We increased the amount of fresh foods we distributed at these locations. Families in our rural communities have increased access to needed nutrient dense foods!
- Our onsite learning center, EmPower Place was visited by more neighbors than ever before! Our Family Engagement Team stepped up their programming to meet these rising numbers, and worked hard to offer programs that met the needs of our youngest neighbors!
- In November, our community came together to Can the Cats! The Missoula community alone brought in just over 870,000 pounds and dollars! Together with the Bozeman community, we raised almost 1.5 million pounds to nourish our neighbors across the state. In the end, we all won!
As we look to the year ahead, we still have a lot of critical work to do. Thank you for playing one of the most important roles in creating a hunger-free Missoula- we cannot nourish community without you.
